Maya Hancock
I was born and raised in Southern NH and after trying out a few other states, gaining a husband and having a little boy we have settled here in beautiful South Dakota.
While I’ve only just picked up a photography camera, it has been a very long time coming. I have thousands and thousands of pictures from middle school where I spent hours photographing anything that sparked my eye from snowflakes on horse noses, to my dog mid air playing fetch or even in the school classroom catching the sunlight peak through the window in a cool way. I’ve always been a lover of photos, there’s something so special about making a moment last forever!
Before becoming a stay at home mom/photographer, I rode horses for a living; from galloping racehorses to loping for a cutting horse trainer I’ve dabbled in quite a few different disciplines. But, what really calls me home is the way of the western cowboy.
I thought for quite a while on what to name this business and the one thing that stuck out the most was my mare, Jericho. I was given this beautiful mare after a close family friend passed, most knew him as Catfish. Arguably the best horseman in Southern Illinois, a man many knew of and called on whenever their bulls got out or had a horse that couldn’t be touched. Jericho is the last horse he bred; I remember sitting on the porch with him asking what he was gonna call her and him telling me all the great plans he had for her. While it breaks my heart daily that he didn’t get a chance to see her past a weanling, I remind myself that he’s up there watching what an incredible mare she’s becoming! So West of Jericho represents our new beginning here out west, and the continued legacy of “Catfish” Curry.
I feel so grateful to of found an avenue that will allow me to continue to stay home and raise little god fearing cowboys! I know that God brought us out here and opened this door for me so I can’t wait to see where it goes from here!
Parenthood is filled with irreplaceable moments that can slip away with time. I’m here to help you capture and keep them vivid.
As a new mom I think I can speak for a lot of us when I say we are usually the one behind the camera. So I'm making it a mission to get the moms in front of the camera! You deserve those keepsakes too!
There is something so special about photography, I mean you can make a moment literally last forever?? Not sure about you but I LOVE looking back at old photos of my grandparents seeing how they lived & dressed. Now let's capture YOUR moments for generations to come.
